The wonderful world of Alexander Calder.
During the 'machine stitched drawings' workshop a piece of advice that I gave to the students to help them was, ' if you like working in 3d, forget that you have a pencil in your hand and imagine you are drawing with wire'. So with this in mind I thought that this week we would look at the work of some artists that 'draw' or sculpt in wire. I personally really enjoy the freedom of this type of image and the looseness of the line, drawing with wire is like a continuous line drawing. My first experience of this type of work was the wonderful art of American artist Alexander Calder 1898-1976.

thanks for your comment, he made a lot of different work in his life time and is well worth a look, his mobiles and sculptures are beautiful as well. Happy hunting Avril.
